There are several positions you can get with a two-year, associate degree in accounting and business management. These include:

  • Bookkeeper -- Prepares accounts for a company or organization, documenting daily financial transactions. Typically, bookkeepers are responsible for preparing four key financial statements: income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements and statement of changes in equity. Bookkeepers help businesses make sound budgeting decisions.
  • Payroll Specialist -- Payroll specialists make sure that employee payroll gets processed on time and accurately. In addition, they handle payroll deductions for things like taxes, 401k contributions and health insurance premiums. • Accounts Payable/Receivable Specialist -- This job involves handling, verifying and paying company bills as well as handling and correctly posting money that is received by the company from customers and others.
  • Auditing -- Larger companies often have dedicated auditing departments that work independently of the general accounting department. These auditors verify the books of different departments, branches, or subsidiaries to make sure that they are adhering to company policy and general accounting practices.
  • Tax Specialist -- As the name implies, a tax specialist works on preparing corporate or individual tax returns. This can be on a freelance basis, for a seasonal tax preparation company or for a corporation. The average salary for someone with an associate degree in accounting is $51,000. However, that figure can vary a great deal depending on your job title, your experience in the field and your location.
